Afraid of hitting your hand?

"You will hit your hand" is one of the most common statements I get as comments on my videos. It actually happened a few times. A band snapped at the wrong moment, at release, and the ball went slightly off, for example.

Just for fun, I designed a cuff that protects your hand. This model is for hammer grip style shooting, but of course it can be adapted for the finger support style as well.

The leather is 6mm cowhide, bought a ton of it on ebay. It is very tough, no slingshot ball can penetrate it. Can't make a full glove from it, it is not flexible enough.

I can and will optimze this further. Velcro comes to mind, or rubber.

  1. I like it. Does it have a buckle? It looks kinda medieval. Your schleuder Gauntlet. I wonder if you could attach a sight to the gauntlet? Maybe a set of pin sights like a bow. If the leather is real stiff and touched the frame of the slingshot it might work. A gauntlet of long range accuracy?

  2. Nice idea, Jörg! I hit my hand 2 times while experimenting with new projectiles( a lighter and a few coins), which could be avoided with this glove. It hurt like hell but was a good lesson for me. But for normal shooting I think this is unnecessary.

  4. Nigel says it best, and I also agree with Horstel's thought of 'unnecessary for normal shooting'. Yet it does look cool and adds to the allure of sling-shooting.

  6. Sweet design, but I think you could make a slingshot strong enough to penetrate it.

  9. This is a very smart idea. Even if you hit your hand, it does look fashionable with the sling shot. It's like a pair now.

  10. This would have been nice to have on our camping trip in June. My friend kept hitting his hand while learning how to shoot.
