It's dogwood - but NOT a slingshot!

Tried my hands on a simple wooden knife - came out OK.

  1. Rather impressive and a lot better than the wooden katana I've fashioned from Crepe Mytrle. Fun to do, however and it occupies the hands and mind.

  2. Sorry about the spelling- should be Crepe Myrtle wood. I had a need for a cane and it turned out as a katana with a small ball at the tip for stability. It was fun to do.

  3. It looks like it might be good for opening parcels but I don't know if it would keep an edge sharp enough for cutting plastic tape and wrapping. A longer bladed version would make a very fine letter opener. You're certainly getting great value from that dogwood tree anyway.

  5. Is it sharp enough to cut something or did you only make it to stab zombies? ;)
Pikeman is right. A letter opener would be nice and cutting down the dogwood was surely a gain for your collection of cool stuff.

  6. Are you a slingshot designer or crafter by trade?

  7. You have many skills, Joerg. I especially enjoyed PrayforRiches.com and also The Ressurection Drug. I have commented before on your inventive mind, but yet I was again surprised. Well done.

  8. Tosh Togo, yes, I enjoy writing a lot. Which is a good thing, I will enroll at the University of Essen on Tuesday, for my PhD (have found a doctor father for my thesis). Never to late for learning.

I am afraid that half of dogwood in Europe will be cut down after your posts here :)

  15. Very nice i had tried that a few times with varying results. The best wood i found to make a knife out of was lignum vitae a very very hard wood that even sinks in water.most types also turn green in sunlight. not easy to work with but one wood i often come back to for many projects needing something hard and non metal.

  18. It's nice, but I recommend more of a fillet between the blade and guard.
