"Angry Birds" is a fun game for several smartphones and pads that I enjoy very much. You shoot giant birds from an equally giant fixed mounted slingshot and destroy structures this way, "killing" cute animals like pigs and gremlins.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angry_Birds
This seems too much fun to not exploit it in a video. So I have ordered a good amount of piggy banks (made from ceramics) on ebay today, and will build a shooting scenario just like the ones in the game.
Then I plan on dressing heavy lead or steel balls like birds and shoot away.
This should be fun! Hope the porcelain pigs will arrive in time for this weekend's video.
Oh, BTW, I just arrived back from a long and important business trip and now I have a nasty cold (not uncommon after a show, all the loud talking and tons of germs). But I nevertheless drew this week's winner...
Porcelanowy!
Congrats.
We actually had that idea for the scouting. This is the movie that gave us the idea.
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/s9TxM3Jpo8o
We rammed 2 poles in the ground, and attached bicycle inner tubes to them. The pouch was fabricated from denim. The shooter can then walk backwards and release it with his/her hands.
But it didn´t work because of the bicycle tubes, they don't really behave like elastics. But with the rubber you have it must be a succes.
Great idea and ur the perfect guy to do this! good luck and im looking forward to see that!!.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, congratz for the winner :)
Nice idea and happy pig smashing
ReplyDeleteI will use a conventional slingshot for the shooting, not a fixed mounted one. That would be a bit too much for piggy banks.
ReplyDeletesounds awesome i cant wait to see this, i think you have another viral video on your hands :)
ReplyDeletejust an idea : use wood palets to make the structure to be destroy ;-)
ReplyDeleteyour losing it :P after you made the biggest slingshot known to mankind your mind slipped off the deepend, maybe you should look into the bird launchers used for hunting :P they shoot bird real nicely. i figured you would take a break from slingshot building after creating that monster.... now i see you have just taken a slide into a different realm lol :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats!

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the video!
ReplyDeleteWe were worried about you hope all is well!
ReplyDeletewhich slingshot will you use?
ReplyDeletehope you have a lot of porcelin!
ReplyDeletePlease hire a band for the video!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better man!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteI hope I win one of the slingshots! Hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteIts about time you did angry birds! Just joking, hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteHave you done any fixed slingshots? I'd imagine you can get quite a bit of power out of them.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be so cool! I can't wait to see the video. I saw your photo in the latest wired magazine and found your site. Now, I have an interest in making my own slingshot, but where to start?
ReplyDeleteStart with a frame! and i cant stop humming the theme song now!
ReplyDeletegood idea))) it will be funny
ReplyDeleteHope you make a couple real good levels!
ReplyDeleteANGRY BIRDS IS BOSS!
ReplyDeletebrilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteyou need to turn slingshot shooting into more of a sport if anyone can you can!
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be one cool video!
ReplyDeleteIts such a great game!
ReplyDeleteawesome should be fun and congrats to the winner!
ReplyDeleteCongrats winner! I like your idea!
ReplyDeleteI will have to learn about 'Angry Birds'. Glad you are recovering from your exhibition. It brought to mind a program from a short time ago titled "Guns, Germs and Steel". I think, if you have not seen it, it might interest you as it shows a view of our civilization's development and I think that is a topic of interest to you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats dude!
ReplyDelete"Guns, Germs and Steel" is actually a really good book by Mr. Jared Diamond, who was awarded the Pulitzer price for it. A brilliant treaty about the history of mankind since 13,000 years ago, it is one of my favorites. I have a full Diamond library and appreciate his work very much.
ReplyDeleteShould the piggies not arrive on time, I will probably do another how-to video this week. I am thinking about a roller equipped, winch cockable bullpub slingshot crossbow. Short, narrow, accurate and powerful, made mostly from plywood.
That would be awesome! I just watched all your videos on the sling x bow and was thinking of making one with rollers! That is perfect! Please make that instead!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the how to crossbow also! Either way there will be a great video!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get your rollers? I would like to build a slingshot with them but I seem to only find expensive ones, the cheaper ones seem to be pretty small. Is it possible to use pvc or some other alternative?
ReplyDeleteAngry birds would definitely be cool! I would love to be able to make a slingshot crossbow for hunting the only problem is that for it to be technically legal it needs a draw weight of 125lbs in my area, is there anyway your crossbow could come close to that? If you have a design that's adaptable to arrows or bolts that would be awesome as I don't have the money for a real crossbow my current hunting bow is homemade out of pvc and wood and cost about 15 dollars and its pretty strong. A crossbow would be incredible tho.
ReplyDeleteGratulation!
ReplyDeleteI make the rollers myself, from round wooden rods. I just drill a hole through the center.
ReplyDeleteI do have a crossbow that has 200 lbs draw, but this is truly overkill - rubber is so much more effective compared to steel or compound limbs, mostly because of the longer draw = more acceleration length.
I would like to see a video of lead balls fired at the camera, which is placed behind a piece of ballistic glass.... I think that this would be super scary and cool, especially if filmed on a high speed camera in slow motion...It would really get everyone flinching in their seats !!!... Just an Idea...I love all these posts and they keep me inspired
ReplyDeleteThanks
Keith
awesome! ;D
ReplyDelete200 lb crossbow with rubber? is that the mini cannon? that's awesome, how many bands of TB gold would that be?
ReplyDeleteCool stuff and congrats!
ReplyDeleteAngry birds is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think for my state crossbows have to be 130 which is probably overkill for a slingxbow, but if you could show us how to make a slim version of one with those specs that would be amazing, I have Theraband gold and wood, no welding stuff :(
ReplyDeletecool. someone from the slingshot forum made a big slingshot and set up carboard boxes and lil guys to shoot at. yours sounds much more insane. lol.
ReplyDeletecant wait
I love angry birds, best game ever. Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you set it up in a public place so random people could play!
ReplyDeleteSlingshots and bird and piggy banks sounds like a blast!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see more videos!
ReplyDeleteAngry birds is great! Slingshots are great! this video will be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to see your Bull pup slingshot crossbow. With the rollers you mean something like the Combow sling uses? That would be a very fancy design because there would be no dangling rubber bands. Will you make it for balls or for arrows?
ReplyDeleteGruss Stephan
I'm liking angry birds and your tutorial idea.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the video and congratulations to Porcelanowy
ReplyDeleteCongrats Porcelanowy!
ReplyDeleteAn angry birds video would fit right in with todays pop culture. Can't wait to see those giant ceramic heads!
ReplyDeleteWhat device will you be launching the "birds" with?
Sorry for the cold, get well soon!
i want to win cougar
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the winner! I hope you feel better and get back to posting videos soon!
ReplyDeleteI can hear the theme song now good luck man!
ReplyDeleteYou would make a real life angry birds...
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear from you, you had some of us worried. Hope the project works nicely!
ReplyDeleteCan you make the crossbow!? Cause we know you will do angry birds, but your tutorials are awesome!
ReplyDeleteCongrats winner! I hope to follow! Angry birds is another terrific idea!
ReplyDeleteI hope the business trip went well!
ReplyDeleteha ha, angry birds, awesome!
ReplyDeletePlease play the song!
ReplyDeleteHahaha that'd be just novel can't wait for the video!
ReplyDeleteI think Angry Birds for real and the song Konis Hupen would go good together.
ReplyDeleteHi Jörg, i hope the porcelain pigs will arrive in time! i like Slingshotvideos with much shooting fun!
ReplyDeletei like the idea very much! good luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, making a video game into real life is a very fun subject!
ReplyDeleteangry birds in real time and a bullpup slingshot carbine,I'm sold, whens the vid lol
ReplyDeletePiggy banks. If that isn't a little slice of genius, it's awfully close.
ReplyDeleteCool, like always :)
ReplyDeleteAfter the german Television-Tradeshow IFA (with Angry Birds on a real big screen of Hannspree with fingertracking behaving like a touchscreen), I fall back into Angry Birds on my Android-tablet .. Cant wait to see your interpretation ...
ReplyDeleteDeath to the pigs!
ReplyDeleteSebastian, I missed that part of the IFA show (I had to work as an exhibitor in hall 9), I have my own concept. It involves drywall boards (Rigips-Platten), iron balls, and porcelain piggy targets.
ReplyDeletethats gonna be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteReal life Angry Birds? Awwwwww yeah!
ReplyDeletemiłej zabawy z twoją procą porcelanowy
ReplyDeleteand you joerg are awesome
ps
how are you drying the wood?
Your idea is great, Jörg. I'm looking forward to a video!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the cold, get well soon Jörg.You where gone a while so I got worryed. The idea of bringing a awesome game to life is eaven more awesome.I cant wait to see it!Good luck Jörg!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA!!! this video will be awsome!! I actually really like that game and too see someone bring it to life is gunna be amazing!!! cant wait to see this video!! keep up the goodwork Jorg!!! I love your work!!
ReplyDeleteso what we need for this is:
ReplyDeleteslingshot
piggy banks
some popsicle sticks
some birds
and some spray paint to color the birds...
really though I think this will be fun.
Amazing. Such an awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. . . So:
ReplyDeleteRed Bird: Steel Ball
Yellow Bird: Dart or Arrow
Blue Bird: Bird Shot or B-Bs
Black Bird: Cherry Bomb!
White Bird: Erm. . . Marshmallow attached to steel ball?
Green Bird: Er, boomerang? Or maybe scissors?
Big Brother Bird: Big Lead Ball
Mighty Eagle: CANNON BALL
I,m sure its gonna be fun to see, but get well first.
ReplyDeleteAll the best.
i always like your crazy ideas, can´t wait to see the vid :)
ReplyDeletei always like your crazy ideas, can´t wait to see the vid :) (just registered :) )
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with your new project bud! And don't worry about the naysayers; you're creating things that you really seem to derive satisfaction from. In the grand scheme of things that's important to you, potentially inspiring to others, and- most importantly- informative viewing for anyone involved in the inevitable Zombie apocalypse.
ReplyDelete:)
Sounds like it's going to be good, what slingshot do you plan on using?
ReplyDeleteI'll try to win a sling.... as usual!
ReplyDelete;-)
Armin
China copy your idea very fast ;-D
ReplyDeletehttp://www.colorfulworld.cn/new/mofei_list.asp?id=302
That china one looks fun lol, I wanna play a real version now.
ReplyDeletei hate to see those large pouches....can go horribly wrong :
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyLUCnTdu7o
(i think it´s because of the too big pouch. correct me pls if i´m wrong jörg)
antraxx, the size of the pouch wasn't the problem, but the bowl shape was. Real dangerous.
ReplyDeletethanks for that clarification.
ReplyDeletei made a few slingshots myself (all with double thera gold flats) and i´m always afraid that this may happen. therefore i made the pouches small enough to not form such a bowl...that might hurt really bad.
antraxx, that video looked rather painful.
ReplyDeleteantraxx, I've seen this video before as it's a classic and I can't help but thinking this was the prototype for 'water-boarding'. The price of melons must have jumped up and they decided to use cheap water instead. :) I cringe every time I see that poor woman get hit. You know it had to have hurt if her face was numb afterwards. Not once have I shot off a watermelon however, and I don't think I want to. :)
ReplyDeletei think she was lucky.
ReplyDeletecould have easily lost an eye.
i bet the entire face turned blue the day after that. :(
Yellow :)
ReplyDeleteDamn, can’t express how happy I am :) Promise to take care of that frame as good as I can :)
Joerg, I will send you a PM from my old youtube account (rafikmniam) if that’s OK.
Thank you and get well :)
Cheers
Rafal
