Inner tubing and office rubber vs. TB Gold

On many requests, I made a comparison between different rubber types.

The task: A bandset that everybody can draw. I settled for 5 kg draw (12 lbs) and 85 cm draw length (33").

Made a bandset from inner tubing, office rubber and TB Gold.

The outcome is interesting!

  2. Thank you for this. In my early years, we made slingshots from bicycle inner tubes and really lacked the power we wanted, but it was all we had available. Therefore, we switched to slings and could throw much larger stones with far more power. I've used slings for hunting and plinking for years, but started making sling-shots when better rubber (surgical tubing) became available. Good to see a scientific comparison. Thanks again.

  4. I wouldn't have guessed office rubber would work so well

  5. I was surprised that "office rubber" was stronger than inner tube. But I think the rubbers will broke after used much. Inner tube probably would hold longer in my opinion. I already had some experience with both types.

  8. wow!I didn't think the TB G is so more powerful than other materials. I wonder how is Tex's latex good compared to theraband gold.

  9. Aras, the natural gum rubber Tex uses is very comparable to TB Gold, just not as well protected against sunlight. It is also hard to find in Europe.

  11. Thanks Jorge, Good comparison. What about the Thera-tubes? How do they compare to regular surgical tubing? Kyle

  15. Thank you for this info! The office rubber seems most easily available for me, I had no idea about the pre-stretching you showed on the video. Learning more and more on your channel thanks again!

  16. When I was a kid, we used alot of different inner bicycle tubes for slingshots, and after alot experiments my friends and I found that (in inner tubes world) red one from old BMX bicycles is far strongest and most durable. some black inner tubes were very weak, and culdn't propel a stone at all. Like attaching rope to the slingshot :).
Later we improvized with ball inner tubes, and they were great, but it was like a murder to me to destroy a ball :D. After that, i got stuck with different types of office rubber, but they ton't last long...

Like Kyle I. said, I would also like to see tubular theraband compared to these above.

P.S. Have you ever considered joining rubber and spring to gain power and rubber life? Probably, that mixture could be little louder because of spring "klanngggg", but I'm sure that is cureable...

    Keep on inspiring us!
