That is so cool, it's amazing the poach can hold together. I can't wait to see it in action and get some insight of the power it has with different types of ammo. Have you ever tried making a pouch out of braided high strength cord or twine?
slingshlong, I braid my own pouches of nylon twine and they work rather well for both strength and lightness in my sling-shots. I have used braided pouches for my regular slings(not sling-shots) for years and one of braided paracord in my current project. Braided tightly, they work very well and last forever.
Joerg, that combination will probably give the strongest chrony figures of all time. You may want to revamp your backstop as it may not be sufficient to stop the shot. Toss in an extra old tee shirt or something. :)
Tosh Togo, that is so cool I thought it could be done and to add an extra loop on the back to be able to attach an archery release would be freaking awesome. Would it be possible to see pics of your pouches so I could try to make one. I love this site.
slingshlong: This is a link to the easiest explained way to do it. Just pay particular attention to all the details. Plan to make a few to gain experience and then use that experience to make the tightest pouch possible to which you could add a loop to. If you use synthetic twine, which I recommend, then heat the end and fuse to a small headless nail to use as a needle. The best of luck to you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAKogbV6eM0
Lastly, tie the loose ends in large knot and then heat each end to fuse it together. That way if won't slip from the rubber bands when you tie them into position with a constriction knot. The ends with the large knots should be enveloped by the rubber bands. Best to have the band end stretched when you secure the knotted twine with that constriction knot.
You are welcome, but, in all honesty, Joerg is the best. :) I just follow in his footsteps. BTW, with use, the pouch will tend to envelop the ball and not let it slip out when you draw the bands as a regular leather pouch will.

ReplyDeletewith double gold my leather is always @ limit, what kind of leather is it and how thick is it?
The leather is about 2mm thick, but real good quality. I never had one tearing.
