Cannon: Rubber arrived

First serious cannon building day today. I basically have five days to make most of the parts, the film team will show up on Thursday and film the preparations. Then we will all drive to Tobias's farm and put it together, then shoot it...

Bought 45 meters (50 yards) of Thera Band Gold. Will start with six full layers of TB gold per side (about 220 kg = 484 lbs of a draw weight), then go up if things hold. I think for the 720 grams boule balls, 220 kg will be fine, but for the 4 kg shot put, we are talking more like 500 kg...1,100 lbs.

Will fire up this ole truck of mine and fetch the 4x4 beams I will use as "rails" for the frame.

  4. Yellow :)
Well, 220-500kg of draw weight is not the same
as triple theraband gold in butterfly style so be careful :)
Looking forward to see the canon.
    Cheers

  5. Wow! That's a lot of tension on the rubber and power!
    This will make history. :-)

  6. Rafal, yes, we are talking 12 to 28 times the draw force, and about twice the draw length. Mind you that a triple TB gold full butterfly slingshot can already achieve .22 lr like energy.

  7. man alive Joerg thats incredible, looking forward to seeing this baby in action.

  10. Hi Jörg,
I love your slingshot channel and am always happy when I get a youtube update :-)
Can't wait to see your big cannon to fire.

Your facial expression after firing a slingshot is just amazing. First the needed respect and then the smiling of an 3 year old ...

  11. Ah! Now I understand why you haven't been your usual self when it comes to replying to youtube messages - you are obviously too busy making the canon!

Don't let us down, Joerg :D

  13. All i can say is, AWESOME.

  14. Wondering how you gonna attach rubber to the frame? Just wrapin' rubber around sounds like bad idea with that amount of power..
    Cheerz!!

  15. Josef, just wonderful work. I am a senior and searched for personal protection items for a long time until I found you on YouTube. I like the dtickshot, the flipshot and the pirate pistol the best. I think your how to videos and PDF attachments are great! You have the best produced videos, clear to understand and wonderful to view. Keep up the good work. Jim k (revShnoor)

wow, this is going to be KEWL! I'd like to see Jöerg make a slingshot with a laser pen attached
, sort of like what the PS-51 laser slingshot have.

Maybe you can touch subject of care, as people can get accidents here, protective glasses are fine, but some of the slingshots have a rather small room for the ammo to propel.

thanks for making awesome videos jöerg, thanks for keeping your head high, being positive, very serious yet not too serious.

If you can, please make a video aboutthe gear you use for measuring throw speeds.

Have never ordered thera bands, but found that elastic bands for gym actually are good strong and long, now I have the bands, i must find a goood choice of handle..and for that Jöerg has given much-o-plenty of inspiration. My favourite utube channel!

  19. LOL. You have your fans as excited as kids the week before Christmas. Your teasers are building up a tremendous amount of excitement and anticipation. I'm having fun as it almost seems I'm right there watching it all come together. I'm as eager to see it being built as I am to see it shooting. ---And the weather had better co-operate! Thank you Joerg and carry on! :)

  24. Sweet . What will be the target? Need to impress the film crew

  25. I will be following this very closely! It is more exciting than the Large Hadron Collider!

  26. i am totally shaking just by thinking at this cannon...i am sure it will make a big bang :)

  27. My son and I can't wait to see the video of the cannon in action. I hope all goes well.

  28. wooooooooooooooow, i can't imagine what this monster is gonna do. maybe tear a hole straight through a car? and i can't wait until the video comes. here is a dare...it will involve your slingshot cannon, some ammo, and enough ballistic gelatine to fill up a pool! just kidding, not that much gelatine, but would you like to test it out with some of the gel?.......

    ReplyDelete
  29. Great deal on those wheels for the cannon

    ReplyDelete
  30. What would happen if the rubber snapped?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would never have ever dreamed of using a truck to draw bands, you my friend have just put that image into my head and it is a sweet one!

    ReplyDelete
  32. If the rubber snaps, then the torn band will lash out like a whip. If it snaps at the pouch, it will lash out against the muzzle. If it snaps at the "fork", then it will lash out against the "receiver", a massive wooden 4x4. I don't see any serious danger here.

  33. over 400lbs of draw weight, sending that ball down range? oh man, a cannon of unusual design with that much power make my artillery heart sing :-D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Keep it up with this monster! It would be very interesting to se how fast the heavy bullet will fly and how much energy it creates, can't wait to se the video!

  35. Cant wait to see a first presentation of "The Cannon" ... keep up the very good work.

By the way, while making so many videos, there must be many funny bits, mistakes and so on, how about a "best of mistakes/errors"? Perhaps on christmas? I think about a thing like the last minutes of all jackie-chan-films ...

  36. 45m TB gold and many more other materials.
I think this project seems to be a little bit expensive!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes, the total expense bill will certainly exceed one thousand Euros. This means no vacation trip this year...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Was that smaller projectile a bocci/boules ball?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Vacation trips are overrated, nothing beats:
    Youre/my own garden ,
Some fun toys (that includes slingshots and wife ;) ),
And alot of BEER or any other drink you like :) :)

    All the best.

  40. Part of the fun of this channel/blog is waking up to new comments from your fans and your responses. Insights, such as the overall cost, make one pause for thought. Since you live an orderly life and have your priorities in good order, I should have realized this project would effect other aspects of your life, such as no vacation. I, and I'm sure many others, thank you for your efforts and what you sacrifice for us. I hope that your budget will, in the near future, at least allow a little time for both you and your wife to relax and take a break. In the meantime, thank you and your wife for your sacrifice for us. It is very much appreciated

    ReplyDelete
  41. that's crazy!
I cant wait to see you shoot with it:)

    ReplyDelete
  42. @The frugal shooter: Yes, boule balls (720 gramm) are the smallest ammo I want to shoot with my cannon.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey Jörg.
Das sieht alles so unfassbar groß aus. Wahnsinn.
By the way, ist es mgölich beim großen Schießen dabei zu sein? Oder ist die Location ein Secret?
    viele Grüße aus dem Hunsrück.
