Tanto/Pachinko!











Made this slingshot today. I named it "Tanto/Pachinko", as "pachinko" means "slingshot" and "tanto" means "dagger".

The handle is the original tanto one, I just welded a slingshot frame that fits the same as the blade. These two are now fully interchangeable.

Feels great in the hand!

I did not polish the steel, just brushed it to give it a rough "fighting" look. A most unusual slingshot.

    I like that the pin (mekugi) and the hole in the frame are holding everything in place like in the original. Have you thought about making the frame to look a bit older? Some acid dye or even a lemon juice if this is a carbon steel.
    Very interesting one, that’s for sure :)

    I did not know that pachinko means slingshot! Japaneses are crazy playing those pachinko machines. By the way, the balls used on that machines are great for shoting with slingshot, and they have looooads!!
    Really nice and original japanese style interchangeable weapons.

    I would've loved this Ninja thing when i was a kid. I wanted to be a ninja, bought a sword at a garage sale and *swing* a big cut in my parents couch... do i have to say that i never saw that sword again? ^^

    @Howard~ Think of the cost savings of rocket fuel! Heck, it they can make a sling to shoot off two people at amusement parks, then why not a satellite by something the inventive mind of Joerg Sprave could cook up? FYI, I've mentioned in a previous post he should be shot off in one of those amusement park sling shots with video for us to see. I think it would be poetic justice, and right and fitting! :) (oddly, he never responded.) :)

    Now I'd like to see the slingshot launch the tanto blade; maybe some aerodynamic adjustments for the extreme ninja... I have seen your work for the first time tonight, my favorite is the olive wood handle, very beautiful wood. I think I need to learn to shoot a sling... cheers

    I can see it now. Dusk is just coming on in a clearing in a bamboo forest. A man wearing a straw hat assumes a ready stance and grabs the hilt of his sword. About twenty feet away, Joerg, in traditional swordsman clothing, does the same, ready for this ronin. The ronin assumes a dash straight for Joerg, who, immediately, draws his sword. But, he draws far too early leaving himself open for- wait a minute! That's not a sword at all, it's a slingshot! Joerg pulls out a steel ball and fires at the ronin, knocking him unconscious. The ronin learns a valuable lesson: do not underestimate the power of the slingshot!

    man this is excellent! similar to the hand gun/folding knife scales idea I mentioned but much nicer. I like the name too. Pachinko is the old school/classic way of referring to the slingshot.

    Well, I know I'll get a lot of hate for this but this is the first of your designs I'm not that crazy about, sorry. The first and last two photos looks like the slingshot is mounted on a monopod for a camera (the side views). I could see how the sword handle would feel good in the the hand to grip but not sure if it's practicale or fits the theme of the sword.... If the end of the slingshot was a knife blade that could be drawn and used, I like it more as being more in keeping with the Japanese sword theme or ninja theme. Of course, that's just me.
    As always, great imageination and skill and please keep pushing the limits in Slingshot design!

    Guys this slingshot is for Masters only. In Japan if You d would miss with this slingshot it has neat feature, as sign of great dishonour with litlle change you can preform harikiri! Samurai would love it as i do!!!

    I'm glad you didn't polish it Joerg, it gives it a much nicer look just being brushed.

    My only criticism would be that there is a lot of unused handle beneath where you would grip it, as the handle you used is designed for use with both hands. BUT like I said, it is my only criticism and other than that I really like it!
