New "Six Circles" shooter, made from Maka Mong burlwood

I had this piece of rare Maka Mong burlwood I ordered some time ago.





The back side was kind of incomplete, one side was much tapered. I figured that I could make another full "six circles" shooter from it, and got to work. The wood is very hard and has a very distinctive smell.

A multiplex core, for stability. Came out beautiful! The burl is incredible.

    Beautiful. It looks like root wood as it is used in car interiors :) A slingshot like this would be nice as a gear knob!

    As usual, the burl compliments the graceful curves of the sling-shot. I don't know that I would wear it in my back pocket as it might get scratched. I think it would have to be wrapped in velvet and only brought out on the rare special occasions such as when a fashionably well dressed zombie is just dying to suck your brains out. He should only be shot with such an elegant sling-shot out of respect for his tasteful style.

    @marc alva: I am a manager in consumer electronics, so slingshots are just a hobby for me. I have nice tools by now, but for my conventional frames, I mostly use hand tools (file, rasp, sandpaper). I enjoy working with wood.

    The wheels in your most recent video - I've been kind of looking forward to this cannon, but for some reason seeing the wheels brought home the amazing scale of the thing even more than the shot put ammo. Can't wait!

    Wow. This is really a beautiful piece. What tools are you using to shape the wood? I did some simple carving back in the day by sanding down the wood ever so carefully.

    I use a power jig saw, rasp, file and sandpaper. The final polishing is done best with a cotton rag and car chrome polish.

    Yes, 1000 or 1200 grid sandpaper, then car chrome polish. If you want to maximize the gloss, use a silver polishing rag (for jewelery) for finishing.

    Sometimes I like touching the wood, especially if it polishes so well. Polycoating means you touch plastic!

    This frame is oiled, though, so there is protection against the elements.

    No commercial use of course, I just want to try it out.
    I am thinking about making a steel/aluminum frame
    witch holes for bolts as a attachment for different interchangeable scales.

    You should use this kind of wood called narra its solid hard plus it is termite resistant and rose-scented

    And most important of all it is the national tree of my home country so it will be an honor for us that you are making a slingshot out of one of our countries national treasure
